Minister of State I of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Alhaji Tijani Yahaya Kaura

(Tafidan Kaura Namoda)



Minister of State 1 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2007); Born 3rd February, 1959 in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State. He is married with children.

Education: He attended Mohammed Asha Primary School Kaura, Namoda where he obtained his Primary Leaving Certificate in 1975. Between 1975-1980, he attended Government Teachers College Bakura where he obtained the Grade II Teacher’s Certificate. He proceeded to College of Education Sokoto, where he obtained National Certificate Education in 1985. Between 1987-89 he was at Ahmadu Bello University, (ABU) Zaria, where he obtained his first Degree in Bachelor of Education (English). In 1999, he was back again at ABU for his Masters Degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy which he successfully completed in 2000.

Working Experience: Alhaji Tijani Kaura worked as a Grade II teacher at Gabake Primary School Kaura Namoda 1980 and 1981, he was  Headmaster at Magami Primary School Kaura Namoda, (1981-1982), Master III at Government Teachers College Yabo (1985-1986), Government Girls Technical College, Tambuwal, (1986-1987), and Government Teachers, College Kaura Namoda in 1987.

Political/Elected Appointment: He was twice elected as the Executive Chairman of Kaura Namoda Local Government Council, (1991-1993), (1996-1998). State Coordinator at the National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) (2000-2001). He served as Federal Commissioner at National Population Commission, Zamfara State (2001-2003), Federal Commissioner at the National Population Commission, Anambra State. (2004-2007)

Other Adhoc Responsibility: Chairman, Planning and Research Committee NPC, (2006-2007). Member, Establishment Commission, NPC (2006-2007), Member, Information Technology Committee, NPC (2006-2007), Member, Public Affairs Committee of the (NPC) (2006-2007), Member, National Census Publicity Committee, Census 2006. (2004-2006)

Community activities: Secretary General, Kaura Namoda Students Union. (1983-1990), Chairman, Parent/Teachers Association of Government Technical College, Kaura Namoda (1996-2007), Public Relations Officer Kaura Namoda Development Union (1986-1990). Secretary of the Zamfara Youth Forum (1985-1991). Director of the Kaura Namoda Community Bank (1992-2007).

Political Activities: He was appointed the Secretary, Sokoto State Chapter of the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) (1995). Secretary, Zamfara State Chapter of United Nigeria Congress Party (1995-1996). Senatorial Candidate Zamfara North PDP, (1999 Elections). Senatorial Candidate Zamfara  North PDP (2003 Elections). Chairman, Benue State PDP Electoral Panel on Gubernatorial Primaries (2003 Elections), Caucus Member, Zamfara State Chapter of PDP (2006-2007). Director General Zamfara State PDP Gubernatorial Campaign (2007 Election). His Hobbies include traveling, reading and teaching.
